Johann Nepomuk Hummel , 1778/11/14 (Bratislava)‒1837/10/17 (Weimar). Famous pianist and improviser, composer of once popular pieces. Protégé of Mozart, assistant conductor to Haydn, studied with Albrechtsberger. Some have said the ornamentation and form of his music outweighs its matter and interest. Composed operas, canatas, ballets, masses, sonatas, concertos, chamber pieces and a notable piano-method.
