Sir Joseph Barnby , 1838/08/12 (York, England)‒1896/01/28 (London). Organist and composer, studied at the Royal College of Music. Organist and conductor at many churches, principal of Guildhall School of Music, knighted in 1892. In my original edition, the music is only credited to a “J. Barnby.” It is possible this is another person.

Voice of the western wind,
Thou singest from afar.
Rich with the music of a land,
Where all thy memories are…

—Edmund Clarence Stedman (1833‒1908)
